The Sunburst League is Alberta's premier Senior AAA Men's baseball league, consisting of 7 teams in the Calgary/Edmonton area:
- Edmonton Cubs
- Edmonton Padres
- Red Deer Riggers
- Sherwood Park Athletics
- St. Albert Tigers
- Calgary Rockies
- Calgary Diamondbacks
Teams are typically compiled of former/current collegiate players, although many players who have been very successful in the league never played competitively after high school.
The 18 to 24 game regular season typically kicks off in May and runs till league playoffs which end in mid August. Teams play 2 regular season games per week on weekday nights at 7:00pm (7:30pm for Red Deer games due to travel). As well, teams will generally play in 2-3 weekend tournaments during the summer. Team fees are roughly $300-$600 for the season per player (varies among teams and each year).
Teams compete each summer for a chance to represent Alberta at the Men's National Championship the following year (for example, the Athletics won the Sunburst League in 2018 and then represented Alberta at Nationals in late-August of 2019). This allows teams and their players sufficient time to book time off work, fundraise, etc. Nationals takes place at the end of August each year, which is after the completion of Sunburst League playoffs.
